Follow the Foliage

While some may dread the end of summer, others are eagerly awaiting the crisp air and the mesmerizing colors the foliage brings during the fall season. The best way to maximize your foliage color intake is to map out a driving route. Pack up your rig and follow the foliage before it’s too late! Below are a few suggestions for the most fabulous fall foliage road trips:

Michigan’s Gold Coast

Where to start: Traverse City, Michigan

When to go: The best time to catch the beautiful fall colors in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is usually late September through mid-October.

What to expect: On your drive take in the brilliant fall colors with beautiful lake front views, historic lighthouses, towering sand dunes and tiny little fishing towns.

Blue Ridge Parkway

Where to start: Roanoke, Virginia

When to go:  Although the timing varies, you should be safe to catch breathtaking foliage views towards the end of September until mid-to late-October.

What to expect: In our opinion, this is the best place to take in beautiful foliage views! Driving on the Parkway will provide spectacular scenic views from every angle. This drive will not disappoint!

The Smokies

Where to start: Gatlinburg, Tennessee

When to go: Early to late October is usually the peak time to catch the beautiful fall colors at almost every elevation.

What to expect: The stunning autumn colors light up The Smokies and provide great views for miles. The foliage colors range through the different elevations providing the most vivid and beautiful colors!

We promise fall lovers alike will not be disappointed with any of these road trip suggestions! Just remember, no matter where you go, the best way to cover the most ground and take in eyefuls of spectacular foliage colors is to get behind the wheel!
